a great pre-race check up

adjust shifting – check cable tension, dérailleur set-up and condition, cable and housing condition.
adjust brakes - (v-brakes): check cable tension, caliper set-up, pad condition and alignment, cable and housing condition. (disc brakes): check rotor condition, center caliper with rotor, examine pad wear, cable and housing condition (for mechanical brakes): look for leaks or air in hydraulic lines.
minor truing of wheels - Lateral only, examine condition of rims and spokes.
examine drive-train - Check for wear (stretch) on chain, chain rings, and cassette.
adjust critical bolts - Headset, stem, crank bolts, chain ring bolts, pedals. Check for loose bottom bracket. Pivot bolts if full-suspension.
lube chain, air up tires and you're out the door!

a full drive train clean consists of pulling cranks, cassette or freewheel, chain, and rear dérailleur ; soaking in solvent, rinsing, and re lubing...worth the price!!
